NEWSLINE PAPER,- OpenAI temporarily removed the Sky voice response feature on the ChatGPT chatbot that sounds similar to the voice of actress Scarlett Johansson in the film "Her" (2013) directed by Spike Jonze.
The Sky voice response feature, which is part of the GPT-4o on ChatGPT launched last week, can answer user questions with a voice like a chat.
According to Variety on Monday (May 20th), the connection of the feature to "Her" was explicitly described by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who after the launch of GPT-4o wrote the word "her" in the upload on the X.
In its press release on Monday (May 20th), OpenAI stated that the voice of Sky is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson's voice, but the natural voice of a different professional actress.
"To protect its privacy, we cannot share the name of our voice talent," OpenAI said.
The company also stated, "We believe that the voice of AI should not be deliberately imitated by a characteristic voice of a celebrity."
OpenAI was aware of the problem with Sky's voice and temporarily stopped using Sky while trying to address it.
"We're listening to questions about how we pick voices in ChatGPT, especially Sky," OpenAI said, adding, "We are seeking to pause Sky usage while we handle it."
OpenAI first introduced voice response features in ChatGPT in September 2023.
The technology company that developed the ChatGPT chatbot has claimed to have fucked out prominent directors and producers in the voter selection process.
There are 400 voice recordings in the selection process and five of them were selected as voice fillers for ChatGPT's response mode options, namely Breeze, Cove, Ember, Juniper, and Sky.
