Why choose to colonize on Mars rather than on the Moon?

NEWSLINE PAPER,- As the Earth's population increases, the planet's resources are shrinking.

Mars is called a good candidate for the future home of mankind. Unfortunately, the journey to Mars takes months and it depends on its equation with Earth.

Traveling to the Red Planet is not an easy thing either. In fact, sending a small engine requires a larger rocket and a burn of fuel so exchanging infrastructure to build an entire colony for now is impossible.

Communications can be delayed for up to four minutes, so it takes time to call for help.

The prospect of colonization seems to be much easier to do in a place closer to our planet, the Moon.

The moon's orbit around the Earth is only three days away, so the communication delay is only a few seconds. Calling for help becomes more feasible and exchanging information isn't a big deal.

Yet, despite that convenience, why do space travelers still choose Mars as an alternative home in the future?

It turns out there's some reason.

Quoted from Science ABC, inhabiting Mars is more promising because like our planet, Mars is covered and protected by the atmosphere.

Although its atmosphere is unable to accommodate the pressure oxygen that we have, which is vital to life, it still protects the planet from the devastating meteorite rain.

The atmospheric layer would also protect us from the sun's UV rays, without which we would be broken.

On the other hand, the moon lacks an atmosphere, so a devastating meteor rain is a common phenomenon there.

Mars' gravity is smaller than Earth's, but big enough to attract gas and form an atmosphere.

But it takes longer to get used to being on the moon, because the gravity of the Moon is only one-sixth of Earth's.
